TO COMMISSION A PORTRAIT

1. PHOTOGRAPHS OF YOUR PET

I will work from photographs of your pet and therefore the reference photographs of your pet are one of the most important things for your portrait. You will no doubt have lots of photos of your much loved pet but I wanted to layout below some simple guidelines for you as to the type of photos which will help achieve the best outcome for your commissioned artwork piece.

With all photos, try to keep the light source behind or to one side of you so that the light shines on your pet's face and reflects in their eyes.

You can take the photo from above or at your pet’s head level, and preferably in a sitting or standing position.  A photo taken slightly from the side is better than face on. It is best not to use zoom on your camera as you will lose fine detail which I need for the portrait.

Most iPhones or similar take great high-quality photos.

MEMORY PORTRAITS

I can work from old photos if your pet is sadly no longer here with us I can use my imagination to make up for any loss of quality in the photograph.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

I own the copyrights to all the artwork I complete. The work cannot be reproduced without permission from me. I hold the right to reproduce the artwork for advertising purposes, prints, greeting cards, and other products. Please let me know if this is something you explicitly do not want so we can discuss options.

DEPOSIT

A non-refundable 50% deposit is required for ALL bookings, this secures your space on my waiting list, and by paying the deposit you agree to my Terms & Conditions. The deposit is paid at the time of booking your pet portrait. You can book before you have taken or sent the photos. There is no need to wait. This will give you peace of mind to know your slot is reserved for you.

PAYMENT

I accept PayPal or Bank Transfer.

OVERSEA'S SHIPPING

I do ship overseas, but not currently to the EU due to a new law requiring me to have a representative / agent in each country. Hopefully this will change soon.

DISPATCH OF PORTRAIT

The portrait will be sent when you are completely happy with it and following remainder of payment has been received.

I own the artwork until it has been paid for, so in the event of no payment I retain the right to sell or keep the work.

REFUNDS

I do not give refunds as the portrait has been seen and accepted.

Your new portrait of your dog has been drawn using the finest artist’s quality materials. I have used Clairefontaine Pastelmat (acid-free) and both Unison Colour Soft Pastels and Faber-Castell Pitt Pastel pencils.

OPENING YOUR PORTRAIT PARCEL

Underneath the wrapping paper and bubble-wrap, your pastel portrait has been taped to a piece of foam board and then sandwiched between two more pieces of foam board for safe transit to you. The pastel portrait itself is protected with a layer of Crystal paper which is hinged at the top and can be lifted from the bottom when you have released the single tapes on the back of the portrait at the bottom and sides. Take care for the tape not to touch the pastel drawing.

DO NOT TOUCH PASTEL PORTRAIT SURFACE!

Please take care not to touch or brush the surface as it can smudge easily. the portrait will be protected by a special layer of paper. Loose particles can be blown off carefully. It is best to keep all of the layers of board taped around the portrait until it is safely framed. It is friction to the surface of the pastel that can smudge the work.

FRAMING YOUR PASTEL PORTRAIT

I would recommend a professional framer who is familiar with framing pastel drawings and uses top quality acid-free mounting boards and materials. They will need to use plain glass and I would recommend a space between the glass and the pastel-drawing to protect the surface of the portrait and so that any loose pastel particles do not fall and mark the mount over time. This can be achieved with a reversed double mount with the larger mount window underneath. I would be happy to discuss with you and organise the mounting and framing of the portrait before shipping.

HANGING YOUR PASTEL PORTRAIT

Your framed portrait would be best positioned in a dry place out of direct sunlight and a steady temperature. It is best to avoid kitchens and bathrooms or too close to a heat source.
